Getting Here

DeCourcy MapThe coast of British Columbia is home to a significant number and variety of islands. Some of these islands are lone sentinels; while others form large archipelagos, each with their own unique characteristics. The larger of these islands: Salt Spring; Galiano; Mayne; Pender; Saturna; Thetis, and neighbouring Gabriola, are all accessible by BC Ferries.

Unlike our larger neighbours however, DeCourcy Island does not have ferry service. Access to the island is only possible by boat or floatplane.

A significant feature of DeCourcy Island is Pirates Cove. This naturally formed and well protected harbour is able to accommodate a fairly substantial marina, in addition to offering significant moorage space for park visitors. Picturesque and popular, Pirates Cove is a favourite cruising destination for many local and international boaters. The marina located in Pirates is privately owned, and is available for use only by DeCourcy Island residents and their guests. Rates are very reasonable.

Calm waters and Long Island

The Marina is an incredible asset for the Island. Offering safe and secure moorage, the marina makes coming and going to the island simple and enjoyable. The marina also provides residents the opportunity to socialize, work on their boats, or share their daily catch of prawns.

FLOAT PLANE ACCESS

Known as Russell’s Landing, the marina also has dedicated space for a floatplane dock. Paid for by way of funds collected by the local community association (DICA), the floatplane dock is predominantly used by Gulf Island Seaplanes, but is available to other operators – private or commercial.

Gulf Island Seaplanes offers SCHEDULED flights to DeCourcy as well as Charter flights from YVR’s South Terminal Float Plane Base.  Rates are extremely reasonable. Book ahead, particularly on long weekends and the busy summer months as seats fill up fast.  Frequent travelers that buy books of 10 trips will receive a discount. Contact GIS for further information.

WATER TAXI ACCESS

If you do not have a boat, traveling to the island is still possible.  Several water taxi companies operate throughout the Gulf Islands. One of these is Nanaimo Adventures. Contact them today for rates.
